Has It Been That Long?
Wow, I can't believe I have been in Austin for 12 1/2 years. It seems like yesterday that I was living in Syracuse, New York, doing a morning radio show, drinking a ton of beer, driving my sweet 1982 Pontaic Gran Prix and wondering where in the world my life was taking me. Then I got a call from JB asking if I was interested in doing a show in Austin, and that he thinks we have a pretty good shot at it. I will spare you all the details of how we got here, but let's just say that might be the best phone call I hav ever received. If I look back at the last 12+ years I am pretty proud of what the JB and Sandy Show has accomplished. Bikes For Kids this year gave away it's 10,000th bike and hit the million dollar mark in fund raising, we raised the money for the Kelly Davidson Foundation to build Kelly's Room at the Dell Childrens Hospital, we raised $100k for the Juvinile Diabetes Research Foundation last year in our first ever JB and Sandy Golf Classic at Barton Creek. So thinkgs are cool with the show. We are working on a new contract right now and I promise it won't be as ugly as the last one was. I don't think I could survive another battle like the one we had 5 years ago. I will keep you posted on how that is going.
If you are new to the show, here are a few things you may want to know about me.
Ten Years ago, I swore up and down that I would never get married again. I got married April 19th to Tricia. We had been together for 5 years and I thought it was time to poop or get off the pot.... so I guess I pooped! We hope to have kids sometime, but we realize at our age (37 and 40 in June) that we may need a little devine intervention and science. We'll see.
A few of my favorite TV shows: Entourage, The Shield, The Office, Real Life, Intervention
Favorite Movie: Snatch
Favorite Resturants: For Sushi it is Musashino, Mexican it's Flores, BBQ its Rudys or the Salt Lick, the best ham sandwich in town is at Smokey J's BBQ at 2222 and 620 Not many BBQ places do ham, Smokey J does it right. For fancy food, I think Eddie V's is tough to beat and Trulucks is right there with them. I love a good sandwich, here are few of my favorites: Hog Island Deli, Jersey Mike's, Thundercloud, Jimmy Johns.
My Favorite Drink is a very strong Crown Royal and Coke. I really need to cut back on these. Maybe just as a treat on the weekend.
If I am going to outside here is what I will be doing. Wakesurfing or wakeboarding on Lake Travis. I got a new boat this year from Steve Present and the Texas Ski Ranch. We went a little over the top with the custom wrap on it, but I think it is cool. My wife just rolled her eyes and said "Whatever little boy" JB said, "Nothing like being almost 40 to get all extreme." I love this boat though. It is a Mastercraft X30 and Mastercraft did everything right with this boat. Trust me. If you are shopping for a ski boat, get your booty to Texas Ski Ranch in New Braunfels and buy a Mastercraft. I like to play golf too. I am not very good, but I enjoy it.
I hate music festivals. You will never see me at the ACL Festival. I honestly can't think of one band that could get me to fight the masses at Zilker Park to see. I really can't. The Stones were here, I passed, Dylan was here....not interested..Tom Petty....I was on the lake.
Tricia and I love to travel. We have been to Europe a couple of times, traveled throughout most of the US. One of my favorite places is Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We went there in the summer and loved it. There are so many cool things to do. We learned that we aren't hikers. I really don't understand hiking, but to each his/her own. Love Jackson Hole and want to go back asap. Other places we want to go and things we want to do. Costa Rica is supposed to be killer. We want to WATCH the running of the bulls in Pamplona. I don't think we will be making a trip any time soon. The dollar is just too weak against the Euro. I also have an interest in Maine. I have no idea why, I just do.
If you listen to the show and hear me talk about Bumper, he is my dog. He is an 11 year old Chocolate Lab and probably the coolest dog in the world. I will leave it at taht. Bumper is my boy!
That's it for now.

Thanks for the lowdown Sandy! This was fun to read. I've been a fan of the show since shortly after moving to Austin in June 2006 from Rhode Island. Yes, Rhode Island. Not Long Island (what most Texans seem to ask after I say Rhode Island. Rhode Island. It's a state. I swear.)
If you ever have any questions about Maine, feel free to ask. As a native New Englander for 30+ years, I'm happy to talk about that part of the country. I love Austin and I'm happy we moved here, but I miss New England sometimes...and I don't meet many transplants from there (why is everyone from California?)
sandy,
thanks for the mini bio, loved reading it! i have been a fan of the show for over 4 years but still love to read both your blog and JB's and really felt like you shared yourself in this post (in a nice not creepy way!)
Keep up the good work, love the show and hope that you will sign a great new contract soon so we can have you around more! ]
Congrats on the wedding to trisha and I hope that you will be blessed with children soon xxx
love lucy xxx
Good Lord Sandy....just a little over board on the boat!!! LOVE IT!! You only live once, right?!!
It's weird to hear you refer to Tricia as your wife! :) Congrats! I'm happy for you!
KIDS??? good lord, sandy...you are growing up big time!!! :)
trisha has always sounded wonderful - she obviously is - and i'm so happy for BOTH of you.
KIDS??? sandy, you're growing up big time.
listening to you over the YEARS i've been through all your ups & downs, and it's wonderful hearing how happy you've become through knowing trisha.
trisha has always sounded like someone special, so i've been hoping you'd realize that "once" isn't "always" when it comes to relationships.
30 years from now i hope you realize that she's your best friend, and that you find joy just in seeing her smile. god bless you both!
I totally agree with you about music festivals! I've been to ACL two times, one day each is all I could stand. Rude people, hot, trash everywhere, restrooms nasty and it takes 30 minutes just to find out there's no paper! I mean, you have to think you might have to pee just to stand in line to do it! Old Settler's was ok but I really don't like the music that much. Oh well!
Glad to see your boat. Heard about it a lot so now I can watch out for you, although I doubt you ever get as far north on the lake as I am. Still, if you target a bass boat, I'll know who to yell at. :)
Don't worry about being bald (read on another blog). My entire family of men are bald so I've grown up with it and have no problems with bald men...semm normal to me! Everyone is different so just be you!
I'm one of your Power Emailers so I guess I've found another way to communicate. Peace!
Sandy,
ove listening to the show (when I get the chance)ya'll always make me laugh. Great mini-bio and good luck with the "making babies" thing..remember:".practice is the fun part"..until you have one of your own feel free to pick up one of ours anytime..we have Callum 2, Katherine (Doodlebug) 4, C.J. 9 and Jamie 13 :) After a day with one of them you'll be glad to be able to "take it back" .
Love ya
Katja
