Booty Cruise and Memorial Weekend
Well another succesful Bootie Cruise, we had a great group of women that had a blast on Lake Travis. We will do it again next year, so mark you calender. Speaking of Lake Travis, if you are headingout here this weekend please be careful. The lake will be full of people that are getting out on the lake for the first time this season and they may be a little rusty with their boat driving skills. Some may have new boats that there are driving for the fist time all by themselves. Here are few suggestions for this weekend and all summer on Lake Travis from a guy that lives out here and has seen some stupid things happen to really nice people.
Getting Gas: When your are pulling in to any spot on the lake to get gas, the most important thing is to slow down. I see people flying in th marinas all the time. Normally there is someone there to help you secure the boat to the dock. You can make his job easier by coming in slow. Remember, brakes have no boat. If your boat comes in slow, the dock guys can help so much more than going fast.....so slow it down. Make you sure you tip the dock guys to.
Cruising in Devils Cove:
Go in from the right side and out thorugh the left side. It just makes things easier. Devils is a No Wake Zone. When you see the boyees, cut it back and always give 50 feet to other boats. If want to tie up with other boats, it is your responsiblity to have rope and bumpers. There is nothing worse than wanting to tie up with you and they have nothing. Very bad lake form. Make a stop at Boaters World or any other boat supply store and get some good Bumpers and lines to tie off your boat.
Ask others to help you:
There is a reason why big commercial boats have crews, the crews have jobs and it the Captains job to tell them what to do. If you are on your boat, pick a couple of people that can help you out when you are parking or tieing up. Even if it is simple as holding a line while you tie another one. Give them a job. Most people want to help, they just have no idea what to do. If you are on someone elses boat, ask them as you are pulling out, what you can do to help, trust me there is something. The boat owner will love you for this and will probably invite you out again.
Really cute drunk girls that have never been on a boat love to drive boats. Don't let them, even if you think it might get you laid.
Have a great safe Memorial Weekend.
