It was a dead squirel in my air conditioning closet outside of my house. Thank you so much to David with Casa Mechanical. He was here to do an annual AC check and I asked if he had any idea what the smell was, he knew it was a dead animal and found the squirrel after cutting into a couple of ducts. I am so happy the smell is gone. Here are a few pics for you to enjoy. This thing was nasty, covered with maggots and one side was completly rotted off. For the record, I reached in to the small hole and pulled this Mother Effer out. I am very brave.

I feel your pain and your relief!!!! We had a similar situation and finally found two dead birds in our dryer vent hose. They had come in from the vent on the roof and couldn't get out. By the time we finally found them they were dessicated and mummified from the dryer heat.
oh wow! You look like you just went fishing and that's your big catch. That should be on the front page of the news paper with the wight and a blue ribbon! It'll be fun looking for that hole that he got into, let us know how that goes!

I sat in my car this morning just to hear your story. The weather was a factor in how the reception was for 94.7 here in Boerne, but I parked just in the "right" spot. I really enjoy listening to you and JB (and Digitz) in the mornings.

I am glad the smell is gone. Today you need to go out and find the hole the squirrel crawled in to.
I went through the same thing in 1998 we lived in a older house and one time there was a smell that was unbelievable we finally found it in the bathroom, the bathtub had a wood piece that was removable to get to the pipes. Thats where the smell came from, a cat tried to come in from under the house through th at opening and got wedged in and died, so i know how you felt it took us abut 2 days to figure it out. becky
I had an issue with a 'smell' when I moved in to a new apartment about a year and a half ago. After 3 or 4 weeks of the rancid smell, it finally went away. A few months passed by, and it was time to get my fireplace ready for use... I opened the flume and a dead bird, completely petrified fell out of it. Now I know where the smell was coming from! I'm glad you found it! :)
I can't tell you how relieved I am for you and Trisha. I can only imagine how gross it would be to have to live with that smell for even 2 weeks.

welcome to my world. Being in the apartment industry and being next to the green belt, my staff and I are digging out dead and live animals all the time. Now you need to figure how he or she got in and plug that entry. If your ducting runs thru your attic, I would go there first and check for chewed ducts and gable vents....

If anyone saw me this morning as you were describing this I am sure they got a laugh. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and there was sheer horror on my face, not to mention that I wanted to VOMIT. I am glad you found the source of your smell, but you couldn't have paid me any amount of money to go near that!
That is one big friggin' squirrel!!
When I was growing up we were always having squirrels die in our walls. My dad just made us live with the smell though so I definitely know what you were going through. Glad you were able to find the source and get rid of it!

that is i think the biggest squirrel i have ever seen, it's the size of a large cat, you must have been feeding him well (haha) glad you found the problem, there is nothing worse than a dead animal in your house
